WebMonarch butterfly populations have declined over 80% in the last two decades. The data collected by community scientists, like yourself, helps researchers at the museum understand how successful milkweed plants in cities and towns are at providing habitat for monarch caterpillars. Web2024-2024 Results In the last 4 years, 409 participants submitted 429 sites and 757 patches of milkweed for monitoring. 19,800 eggs and 3,550 caterpillars were observed during that time. In 2024, we had 72 returning participants and 77 returning sites. See below for a summary of each year's results.
