While Abram was still a boy, the Esau family relocated, first to the Molotchna Mennonite Settlement and then to the Suvorovka Mennonite Settlement. They came down to India from Russia independently in the late 1989. The area that Friesen focused his mission work, Andhra Pradesh, already had an established relationship with the American Baptist Mission, who gladly gave over part of their mission to Friesen.
